Chapters Transcript Video Lung Cancer Patient Runs Out of Options, Finds New Hope at Miami Cancer Institute I travel. I watch my great niece every day. She's adorable. But she's the typical four year old. We have a lot of fun. That's why I don't show the rest of my house because it's her playroom. Uh I was diagnosed originally in 2015. I had an ultrasound being done on my heart by my heart doctor. I thought I was gonna die right away immediately. I didn't know how much time I had. She was at the tail end of exhausting all her options for further treatment until she came to see us. The advantage of the tumor board is really putting more eyes on the disease process. And I think as you work through the problem with other members of the team, I think that you're likely to come out with a treatment algorithm that's the most appropriate and them that's going to benefit the patient the most we felt it was reasonable given her our good health to approach a robotic assisted surgical resection. I got a call out of the blue from Miami Cancer Institute that, hey, maybe we can do surgery. So that was going from one closed door to another open door. It's important if a patient is diagnosed with cancer and they've been treated and they have exhausted the treatment at their own particular institution. It's important to seek out other advice and perhaps centers like the Miami Cancer Institute so that they might be able to find one of these unique therapies that they would qualify for. I had the option of going to another institution in the Northeast. And um, I chose Miami Cancer Institute because of the doctors and the confidence they had, uh, in the compassion that they had. Everybody is so nice and supportive, very calm, confident. That's what I liked about dr Dyleski who did my surgery. He was very confident, very calm, uh, made me feel at ease. And uh and if he said he could do it, I believe him. One thing I've learned is that patients who tend to Keep a positive frame of mind about the treatment of their disease seem to do better. As of today November 2020, I am cancer free. Uh very thankful to Dr Dilevski for that. She was one of those patients that appeared to have a positive approach to the treatment of her disease and it probably had a significant impact in her overall care. I absolutely would recommend Miami Cancer Institute. Um They've been very helpful, they've been very passionate, compassionate, they care about the people they care about their patients. Created by
