Chapters Transcript Video Meet the Chief: Dr. Anthony Miniaci My name is Tony Maniaci. I'm an orthopedic surgeon, sports medicine and shoulder and elbow specialist. And I originally am from Canada. I like to problem solve. Uh I like to innovate and people call me out of the box. A lot of the times the nurses affectionately used to call me macgyver. That natural interest in fixing problems is sort of what led me to develop operations as well as implants that could help patients and fix problems that we were having as surgeons. This new type of anatomical replacement. I have actually some very elite athletes who have these in place now who have gone back and do full activities without disability at all. So now you can reach for things. I think the most satisfying part is uh seeing patients with significant disabilities and then watching them progress through their recovery and then getting back to the activities and delivering on what you thought you were going to do for them in the first place. But I've taken care of uh athletes all the way from the high school to uh collegiate athletes to Olympic athletes, to professional athletes. Being a team physician actually is different than taking care of athletes to be honest with you and I really enjoy doing both and I actually do both. The Cleveland Browns was a lot of fun, a franchise which has such a, a storied history behind it. I met Jim Brown and I had an opportunity to actually talk to him about, uh some of his life experiences and stuff like that. So those were the kind of the fun things. It's really spoiled me, to be honest with you. I, I have trouble going to sporting events because I've been so used to sort of being involved on the sidelines in the club hose that sitting up in the stands. It just, it, it gets me a little antsy so that, uh, I sometimes prefer just watching a big event on TV. And you're still having some pain in that shoulder. Yes, I've been very lucky in my life. You know, I've traveled the world. I've seen many, many places. I am just happiest being with my family. My wife and I, we met sophomore year in high school and we've been together ever since. Our three Children are all wonderful. Uh, we have, our oldest, is our daughter. She actually is also an orthopedic surgeon. Our youngest son is also a doctor and then our middle child, he works in the food industry. We have a, a beautiful lake cottage, uh, north of Toronto in Canada. You do some water sports during the day, then going for a bike ride and then you have some great outdoor cookouts. It doesn't get simpler or better than that. I've learned over the years there are lessons going on in life all the time. You just need to pay attention. That's my message. Created by
