Chapters Transcript Video Back to Golf After Cubital Tunnel Surgery Thanks to Baptist Health Orthopedic Care My name is Jerry Spielman. I love playing sports and being active. I also love animals. I have 3 dogs in my house now. I used to live on golf courses. I actually had a golf cart that won the coolest golf cart in the year on Golf Digest, and I used to play multiple times per week and now I am not playing at all. I needed a cubital tunnel decompression of my nerve. It gave me a lot of neuropathy in my fingers, which is a tingling. It hurts when I grasp something really strong. I'd never play golf again if this if this continued when I saw Doctor Cohn for an interview, he was really professional, really quick, and he honed right down into the situation that what I needed, and I had no idea it would be as easy as it was. Cubbital tunnel syndrome is one of the most common nerve compressions in the arm. It's a problem where the ulnar nerve gets compressed behind the elbow. Um, sometimes we hit that nerve and that vulnerable spot we call it the funny bone. Pressure on the nerve creates sometimes radiating numbness and tingling to the ring and the little finger as the disease progresses for some, you can develop hand weakness which can affect daily activities using the hand. Jerry came to me complaining of primarily numbness and tingling to his right hand. About 3 months prior, he had had an electrodiagnostic study. Uh, which confirm the diagnosis of cubital tunnel syndrome. Yeah, the electrodiagnostic study can tell us more information about which nerve is being compressed and how severe the condition is. So in Jerry's case, as it was going on for several years already, he had constant symptoms of numbness and tingling at this stage you're moving into a more severe category of cubital tunnel syndrome where there could be imminent permanent nerve damage that even surgery can't correct and more advanced cases like Jerry's typically surgery is an excellent option. I decided to not take any anesthesia in the morning of my surgery procedure. I came into the 3rd floor, which I was very impressed how the operating room and all the facilities looked on the 3rd floor, but I felt nothing, no pain at all from the time of his first cut to now, and he mentioned that he's using his new device and it was an amazing invention that takes only 2 weeks to recover, not the full 4 weeks of the old procedure. And I said this is the greatest doctor I've ever seen. Jerry loves golf and he really wanted to get back to golf quickly. He's going to have no problem in doing so. He was seen today in a 4 week follow up. He has full motion of his elbow, wrist and digits. He has no pain. He had a severe case, and he reported today that he had a 90% improvement in his preoperative symptoms already. It's really exciting to be part of Baptist Health Orthopedic Care, where cutting edge technologies help patients get better faster. Created by
