Bone Health and Fracture Prevention for Orthopedic Referrals
Early identification. Specialized management. Multidisciplinary care to help reduce fracture risk.
Baptist Health Orthopedic Care offers a Bone Health and Fracture Prevention Program for patients at increased risk of fracture who may benefit from early evaluation and treatment. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the program provides bone health screenings and management for low bone mass and osteoporosis to help reduce the likelihood of future fractures.
Why Refer
Patients may be appropriate for referral if they are over age 50, have low bone density, have experienced a fracture after age 50 or have other clinical risk factors associated with poor bone health and fracture risk. These may include parental fracture history, smoking, diabetes, long-term steroid use, frequent falls, low calcium, higher alcohol intake and small body frame.
Focused Bone Health Management
The program is designed to support patients through bone health screening, risk assessment and treatment for osteopenia and osteoporosis. This proactive approach can help identify vulnerable patients earlier and reduce the risk of future fracture.
Specialist Care Across South Florida
Patients are seen by metabolic bone specialists April Tschumy, APRN, and Yasmin Canela, MSN, APRN, at Baptist Health Orthopedics locations in Coral Gables, Doral, Kendall, Plantation and West Kendall.
