Leading Experts to Present Latest Advances in Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Neurocritical Care
Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute will host the 2025 Miami Neuroscience Symposium on November 6-7, 2025, at the Hilton Miami Downtown in Miami, Florida. The symposium will bring together national and international leaders in neurology, neurosurgery, neurocritical care, and rehabilitation medicine to explore cutting-edge developments in the diagnosis and treatment of complex neurological disorders.
“This symposium provides a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals to engage with thought leaders across the neurosciences,” said Michael W McDermott, M.D., Chief Medical Executive and Irma and Kalman Bass Endowed Chair in Clinical Neuroscience at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute, as well as co-director of the symposium. “We’re focused on delivering practical, evidence-based updates that clinicians can apply immediately in their practice, especially in high-stakes areas like stroke care, neurotrauma, epilepsy, and neurodegeneration.”
The two-day symposium will feature lectures, interactive panel discussions, and case-based learning led by Miami Neuroscience Institute faculty and experts from across the U.S. and abroad. Program highlights include:
- Explore current best practices in the diagnosis and treatment of stroke, epilepsy, brain tumors, neurodegenerative and neuromuscular disorders.
- Review pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches for managing movement disorders, chronic pain, headaches and dysautonomia.
- Apply updated guidelines for acute ischemic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, and post-cardiac arrest care.
- Examine innovations in spine surgery and neurosurgical techniques, including radiosurgery, cervical arthroplasty and spinal oncology.
- Understand the role of neuroimaging and point-of-care diagnostics in the rapid evaluation of neurologic conditions.
- Enhance patient counseling and interdisciplinary care through case-based discussions on nutrition, rehab planning and long-term management.
- Evaluate advanced therapies such as deep brain stimulation, botulinum toxin and HiFu for Parkinson’s and other movement disorders.
The symposium will feature leading faculty in the field. Michael W. McDermott, M.D., will serve as moderator and opening keynote chair, presenting the “Year in Review” on day 1 and presiding over the brain tumors segment on day 2. On day 2’s neurovascular/stroke track, interventional experts Guilherme Dabus, M.D., and Italo Linfante, M.D., will lead discussions on advances in cerebrovascular care, including updates on treatment options for unruptured intracranial aneurysms and state-of-the-art approaches for acute ischemic stroke. In the epilepsy track, Luis Felipe Tornes, M.D., will moderate and present on “Neuromodulation,” highlighting advances in epilepsy management. Diego Torres-Russotto, M.D., will moderate the headaches and neuromuscular disorders track on day 1 and lead the movement and neurodegenerative disorders track on day 2.
